The DualGlo Effect
The Patented DualGlo Effect provides bright colours during the day combined with an all night glow effect.
The DualGlo effect is available in a range of bright daytime colours - orange, pink, blue, purple, yellow green and brilliant whites, that combined with the glow effect offer up to 24 hour visibility. Three base glow effects are available, green, orange and blue.
The Photograph below shows our standard colours moulded in nylon (PA6) using DualGlo Masterbatch. The upper half shows the daytime colours, whilst the lower half shows the glow effect when the materials are in darkness.
DualGlo is based on strontium technology and our colours glow up to 7 times brighter than old style zinc sulphide materials and can keep glowing for over 15 hours on each recharge of light.
DualGlo pigments are very safe and products produced with them have passed international safety certifications, including third party certification for use in children's toys.

DualGlo can provide an approximate colour matching service with regard to the daylight colour produced. However, due to the nature of the material [as charges and light conditions vary, so will the perceived colour] matching a RAL or Pantone colour is not always possible; although a reasonably close match is normally attainable.
DualGlo Pigments (shown left in light and darkness) are the primary building block for all DualGlo’s materials.
Pigments are based on strontium mixes (either aluminate of silicate) and processed according to DualGlo’s patented formulas and processes which provide the coloration.
All strontium is sourced through legitimate routes and no “grey market” materials are used; ensuring safety, quality and consistency of DualGlo’s ingredients.
DualGlo pigments are available in a range of bright daytime colours - orange, pink, blue, purple, yellow green and brilliant whites, that combined with the glow effect offer up to 24 hour visibility.
Custom pigments can be manufactured for specific applications and non-house colours.
Powder Coating
Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven.
The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish as shown below!
Currently white (both green and blue glowing variants) and yellow are available and it is anticipate that our full colour range will be available in a Powder Coating format during 2008.
Simple to use: most professional electrostatic powder coating operations are able to obtain good results with the current range of colours.
For best results we recommend:
- a white base coat
- mix of clear coat powder and up to 50% DualGlo
- top coat of UV stable clear coat
Minimum Quantities:
Powder is sold by the kilo. The minimum order size is for 10 kg of any one colour.
DualGlo produces a range of solvent based paints with the following daytime colours: white, blue, pink, orange, green, yellow and purple.
DualGlo paint is currently supplied as a twin pack concentrate for professional spraying; however consumer aerosols are in the final stages of testing and will be available shortly.
Simple to use: nothing particularly special is required - just 'long' thinners and a nozzle that can handle particles of 25 micron ~ 40 micron. Naturally all the normal safety precautions that are needed to work with solvent based paints apply.
For best results we recommend:
- A white base coat
- Multiple fine coats of DualGlo paint
- Top coat of UV stable lacquer
Minimum Quantities:
Paint is sold in 800gms tins. The minimum order size is for 4kg which may be of mixed colours.
Water based paints: We are currently developing a range of water based paints and expect a full range of colours to become available during 2008.
Masterbatch
DualGlo Masterbatch is a proven formulation that represents a new generation of coloured luminous technology.
DualGlo Masterbatch allows plastics to have strong daylight colours with high glow output and longevity. DualGlo colours glow up to 7 times brighter than old style materials and can keep glowing for over 15 hours on each recharge of light.
DualGlo Masterbatch complies with BSEN71–3: 1995: BS5665 Part 3: 1995 safety legislative parameters.
DualGlo universal Masterbatch format is compatible with both polyolefin's and engineering grade polymers.
Simple to use:
- Just add preferred concentration by weight to the polymer.
- Retain output capacity as machine performance is unaffected.
- DualGlo does not require drying in most circumstances.
- UV stable and suitable for outdoor use.
- No modifications required as DualGlo has been designed to be compatible with the majority of injection moulding and extrusion machines.
The minimum order size is for 20kg of any one colour.
Moulding processes: Both injection and blow methods are suitable, but please note our standard mix for blow is qualified to a wall thickness not to be below 100 microns. We can produce a custom mix that will work below this level. Resins: DualGlo white will work with most polymers including polyolefin [PE, HDPE]; but the coloured mixes perform better with engineering grades and most are compatible, including PP, PET, ABS, PA, PC ,PC-ABS and Acrylic.
Within the “touchy feely” plastic types [TPE's / TPO's] DualGlo can work with a few - although they tend to be the slightly stiffer variations thereof.

Compound:
DualGlo produces custom compounds for clients who do not use a Masterbatch based
moulding system or who have requirements that cannot be met through our standard
formulations.
Client requirements vary, but common reasons for needing custom compounds
include:
High fire retarding properties required
Particular physical properties e.g. Strength or hardness
A particular polymer is required that is not compatible with our Masterbatch
We are able to produce very high quality compounds and have our own colour
sorting facilities that are capable of virtually eliminating discoloured pellets
(a feature of compounding strontium) from the final mix.
Minimum
Quantities
Typically it is uneconomic to produce custom compounds in units less than a
tonne.
